Once again Alex dripping with condescension for people who may think differently than him. To claim that a school ought to be held out of the playoff for "ideological" reasons is outrageously offensive. Imagine the venom Alex would have for a member of the media who claimed Columbia shouldn't be allowed in the NCAA tournament because of it's response (or lack thereof) to pro-Palestinian protests? Or UCLA or Cal or Michigan or etc. shouldn't be allowed in the CFP because of it's administration's support for lgbt rights? God forbid there is ideological diversity among college institutions.

1) Didn't say Liberty should be "held out" of the Playoff. Said I hope someone beats them, which is my prerogative as a fan of the sport and as someone who'd like to watch a competitive game instead of what we saw against Oregon last year.

2) Yeah if someone tried to keep a team out of the Playoff because that school supported gay people's rights, I would 100% condescend toward that person and have contempt for them. Hope this was helpful. Thank you for listening and supporting the show.

That was the second reason you gave, which I fully agree with. I also would like to see a competitive game.

So you agree that the first reason you gave is problematic?

I do not. As a matter of ideological diversity, people should be free to root against whoever they wish. And you are free to not like it!

Okay, you admit that this is a reflection of the thing that you would condescend and hold contempt for. That is fair enough!

This UNLV situation is the tip of the iceberg. As it currently sits, universities have no bargaining power when it comes to upholding “contracts”. But. If we move towards a professionalized model, or one where “student” athletes get treated like employees, there should be non compete clauses. That’s what I would expect. That creates more efficient risk sharing between the employees and employer and a more efficient economic model. That also would allow universities to fire student employees and pay differing rates based on performance. So. I’d imagine a lot of kids found out very quickly how valuable they are not. The old transfer system allowed for a type of non compete clause and was more tolerable as a result. But, with a public university funded by tax dollars and athletic programs funded by boosters, the people absolutely should not allow a player to use resources they provide with a 4-year return in mind, only for him to leave whenever he wants.

Gonna need to keep an eye on Ryan v. FTC before you put much stock in non-compete clauses as part of the solution.

For the record, Jim McMahon is catholic and apparently only went to BYU (Video below) “I only went there because my dad wouldn't let me go to UNLV. They offered me a house, car, money, easy job at the casino... I would have been Steve Wynn if I went to Vegas, either that or dead from doing the strippers"

Quick note on the Kaytron Allen/Nick Singleton discussion: Allen was banged up all offseason and into camp so some of his mediocre start is being attributed to getting back in shape

I still think it's a bit weird that they've shared carries so evenly for two-plus seasons. Granted last year Allen was a bit more productive on a smaller sample, but Singleton's been *way* better two out of three years. Allen's a useful back, just think they have a more premium option who should be getting more of the load.
