Your Split Zone Duo subscription is getting better with these updates
A unified feed with every episode, premium episodes on Spotify, our arrival on YouTube Music, and more ways to customize how you receive our work.
Thanks for being here and supporting Split Zone Duo. Today we are rolling out some updates to make your subscription experience seamless:
What is new?
An all-in-one podcast feed with free and paid episodes together. You no longer have to carry separate RSS feeds to get the two types of shows.
Premium episodes are now on Spotify. You can now listen to our subscriber-only episodes on Spotify, in the same feed where you currently get free episodes.
YouTube Music support. Google is sunsetting the Google Podcasts app and replacing it with YouTube Music (iOS, Android). SZD is now on YouTube Music. Our channel is here, and with some quick setup, you can listen to free and paid episodes in one feed.
Customized email options for newsletters and podcasts. Instead of getting an email every time we publish a podcast or newsletter, you can decide if you want all, some, or none of that.
What do I have to do?
The short answer: nothing. But keep reading.
If you’re a paid subscriber, you probably set up a custom RSS feed when you signed up, so that you could receive premium episodes in a podcast app. The free episodes will now show up in that feed along with the paid ones.
You can unsubscribe from the “free” feed that you have used to get free episodes until now. (Or you can stay subscribed and download each episode 42 times to juice our stats.)
We added an “All in one!” label to the feed where you’ll now get everything. The feeds have the same name, so make sure you keep the correct feed.
You’ll want to keep the one on the left here:
If you are not a paying subscriber, continue to use the same free podcast feed as always. You will see short previews of paid episodes in that feed. If you become a paying subscriber, you can easily set up a custom RSS link and receive all of the free and paid episodes in the “all in one” feed. Then you can ditch the “free” feed.
If you prefer to listen at splitzoneduo.com or via the Substack app, no changes are needed, either.
(If you haven’t set up an RSS feed, you can do that in your Substack settings. In most podcast players, you can then paste the link into the app, and voila.)
What about Spotify?
You can set up the Spotify connection here or on Spotify.
On Spotify: While logged into Spotify, you can go to the SZD Spotify page, click on the lock on any paid episode, then click “get access” and link your Substack account to Spotify from there. It takes just a few clicks.
On Substack: You can set up your Spotify access from this page. Then you’ll be able to listen to all free and paid episodes in a sleek feed on Spotify.

What about YouTube Music?
It’s a new app, but so far, it looks good. Our “free” feed is here, with free episodes and short previews of the paid shows. You can set up an all-in-one feed by copying your custom URL from this page.
Then, in the YouTube Music app or website, navigate to your Library, then to Podcasts, then to “Add podcast.” You can paste in your custom URL and get free and paid episodes in one YouTube Music feed.
How do I customize my email notifications?
By default, we send out emails when we release episodes, publish newsletters, and start chat threads to ask for your questions. If you only want some of those emails, you can pick and choose which ones you receive by visiting your Split Zone Duo account page.
The “Split Zone Duo” section up top is for important podcast updates and events. The other toggles are self-explanatory: for podcasts, newsletters, and chats.
You can further customize Substack push notifications in your Substack settings.
Wow, that’s all really nice.
It was not an ideal setup to make listeners carry two podcast feeds to support us, and while we really appreciate everyone for putting up with it, we are glad to simplify things for you. This is a way better experience.
We’re also very happy to be on Spotify. An integration with that platform was the one big thing Substack did not have when we made the move last fall, but the team there heard our request and has worked hard to set up a first-class experience for Spotify listeners. We think it works and looks great.
Is now the best time to become a paid subscriber?
Yes!
We work tirelessly to provide podcasts and newsletters that are worth the cost of your subscription, and thousands of fellow college football fans seem happy with their decision. For the first time, we can offer not just a premium experience but an all-in-one home for our work. We have significant plans for not just the season but the rest of the offseason, and we’d love to have you.
Subscribe for $10 a month, and get a free month if you subscribe annually.
In return, we aim to give you content that enriches your enjoyment and understanding of college football. Subscribing is the best way to help us make this independent podcast, and you’ll get hours of entertainment.
