Other notes on Avalos. Best receiver transferred mid-season leaving his team with what was heavily rumored to be internal disputes with the head coach. Avalos is said to have been the leading man on the QB-rotation which was nonsensical and insulting to the players. At one point before the Fresno game, he said that Taylen Green was the starter for the team. Taylen got the first snap for the game and then was benched for the rest of the game. He refused to provide clarity on the situation. This offense didn't know who would be leading it.
It is also heavily rumored that he was an obsessive micro-manager of his staff. The prevailing sentiment is that Koetter saved his season in 2022. There is a story that came out in 2022 where Koetter had to tell Avalos to "get the f*** out of his meeting."
General opinion in Boise is once a bronco, always a bronco, but he probably needed to get his head coach experience at a smaller school first.
